A Brief History
Sydney-my favorite bird

Sydney from Bird Crazy Bird Store, Albuquerque, NM

I started  with a pair of Zebra Finches, Inkin and Blinkin.Inkin & BlinkinAt the time I was already enchanted by lovebirds but was afraid of their size - imagine that! Ha! We moved cross-country with the finches. They took it all in stride. One pair lead to 4 pair eventually (not by breeding but by buying more pairs).
Sydney the pearl cockatielI decided I was ready for a "larger" bird and bought a handfed pearl cockatiel named Sydney. She was a pretty and sweet little bird. Then in 1993, I bought my first pair of lovebirds, Emerald and Sapphire. They were medium dark Dutch blue Peach-Faced Lovebirds. The place I bought them from said they would remain tame as a pair (I didn't know any better at the time). This was the far from the truth! They never tamed even though I worked with them daily for 4 months. I learned the hard truth that lovebirds if given a choice will choose a bird over you as a friend.

When they had their first clutch I realized why I was doing this. It was a delight hand raising their babies! They are such sweet spunky birds when hand raised! That was that. I've been breeding lovebirds since then.

Early 2000, I answered a newspaper ad for a parrotlet and came home with Mindy, a Lucida (subspecies) Pacific Parrotlet female. A month later, I found a breeder of Lucidas and came home with Mork, a male Lucida Pacific Parrotlet. They get along famously! Mork said his first words on Oct 30, 2000! Such sweet little birds!

Right now I breed Peach-Faced lovebirds and Green Rump Parrotlets. McFly on her horse They are good apartment birds and loving companions.
