All of the animals we have loved, rescued or owned.
Several years ago, we weren't able to have any pets so we volunteered
at the Missoula Humane Society. Sylvan was a boxer X Dane dog we
helped to socialize. At first she was a shy dog with little hope of adoption.
We'd like to think time with us made her more social. She was adopted
successfully. |

Inkin and Blinkin were our first "non-fish" pets.
Inkin was a penguin male and Blinkin was a normal female. |
Sydney was a pearl Cockatiel that we owned for a while.
She now lives with a homebound person who loves her dearly. |
Linus was the only baby successfully raised by Inkin and
Blinkin. |
Sydney was a Moluccan Cockatoo that was at our favorite bird store
(that no longer exists) Bird Crazy in Albuquerque, NM. We couldn't
afford her but came every week to visit her until she was sold to another
pet store. |
Emmy and Sapphire were our first blue series Peach-faced
lovebirds. They had lots of beautiful babies. |
Emmy and Sapphire's babies. There was a blue, a medium
blue and a dark blue in the clutch. We kept the dark blue bird.
Icky is her name. |
Sally was a terrier mix that jumped into our car one day as Kat
was going to work at the vet clinic. After getting her checked out
by the vet (and not finding an owner), she was adopted by a friend from
work. We couldn't keep her because the place we lived in then didn't
allow dogs. |
These are the kittens that we handraised from 3 weeks of age.
A woman walked into the vet clinic Kat worked in. The woman set a
bucket on the counter and without saying a word, walked out. Inside
the bucket were 4 three week old kittens! We volunteered to hand
raised them. What a job that was! Definitely rewarding! |
Pandora (dilute calico female) and Dion (black and white
male) were the only 2 kittens we kept. The other two went to good
homes. These cats are the best! |
Pandora laying in the bathroom sink. She's a real stinker but
we love her anyway :) |
Orion (Rhodesian Ridgeback) was one of a litter of puppies Kat
helped deliver by c-section while she worked at the vet clinic. The
owners of the puppies wanted to euthanize Orion because he was born without
a hair ridge along his back (a cosmetic defect only). We adopted
him instead. |
Orion as a young adult. At 8 months he was already 95 pounds!
At the time we lived in a one bedroom apartment with no yard. He
was an energetic dog that deserved room to run. He was adopted by
a family that lives in the country where he has 2 lab pals and a 1/2 acre
dog run. |
Someone brought in a crow to the vet clinic after seeing it fall out
of the sky. After examining it and finding no wounds, Kat let it
rest for several hours before releasing it. |
Felicity showed up on our doorstep one day - about a month after
the college session ended for summer. She was malnourished, injured
from cat fights and pregnant. Kat took her in to work - got her cleaned
up, vaccinated and spayed. Since she didn't get along with out current
cats, she was eventually adopted out to a nice family as the only cat in
the household. |
Rikkitikkitavi was a Siamese neutered male ferret. He was
a retired research animal that was given to Kat when she worked at UNM.

Kat with Rikki (on the right) and Grounds Keeper Willy
(on the left). GK Willy (neutered male) was found in
a dumpster on the university campus. The grounds keepers thought
GK was a rat or a wild ferret (there are no wild ferrets anymore
in the US). Kat helped them identify GK as a domestic ferret
and a friendly one at that! After a vet check and vaccines, he started
looking great. Rikki and GK (now known as Weasel) live
in a 12 ferret household! What a break for them :) |
Stark, a terrier cross, was rescued from the humane society in
Albuquerque, NM. He was THE best dog ever. Smart, energetic,
extremely good natured, eager to please, funny! We had Stark for
several years until we moved to another state and were unable to take him
with us. He now lives with a Chihuahua buddy and an energetic 3 year
old girl for a playmate :)
We still miss him! |
